However, the best cure for depression is making sure to prevent its onset in the first place. If you’re not sure how to do so, then you’ve come to the right place.

Depression Prevention

We all know how depression can affect you regardless of who you are as a person. But did you know that depression can be caused by your body not getting what it needs over an extended period of time? This is the case for most cases of depression as missing one important aspect of your life can lead you to spiral into depression.

Avoid Dieting and Eat A Balanced Diet

Eating the right kinds of food is essential for your body to function properly. If you aren’t getting what you need through food, then your body is going to start suffering. Having an unhealthy diet can cause a chain reaction that will eventually spiral you into food withdrawal and depression. Namely diets having large amounts of fat in them can cause a person to be more anxious about their surroundings and cause depression.

Regular Exercise

Exercise not only keeps your body fit, it also helps your mind relax and unwind. Exercising helps your brain release endorphins which are used to numb the pain of a good workout. They also have the added benefit of making you feel happier. Regular exercise helps keep your endorphin levels high and makes sure you don’t catch depression.

Stay Social

Humans are social creatures by nature and it shows when we’re isolated for an extended period of time. Being isolated makes you paranoid of the world and contributes to causing long term depression. Keep your connections to your family and friends strong and you’re less likely to develop depression. If you’re ever feeling like you’re spiraling into depression, just contact your friends and family and ask for advice or bond with them. It can do a lot of good for you

Get Enough Rest

Lack of sleep can make you irritable and heavily affect your mood. Extended periods of lack of sleep will eventually cause you to be unapproachable by others and contribute to your slow drop into depression. Make sure to have the recommended 8 hours of sleep every night to ensure that you’ll be happy and vibrant in the morning.

Another thing to note is to make sure that you have a regular sleeping schedule as your body takes time to adjust its “internal clock”. This internal clock helps dictate when you wake up in the morning. This means that if your regular schedule of sleep is from 9pm to 7am, you’ll end up waking up at 7am regardless of what time you sleep, may it be at 9pm or 1am.

Treat Yourself to Some R&R

Satisfying yourself and de stressing are as important as enough rest, food and social interaction. What’s the point of having an 8 hour day job when all you do is spend it all on expenses and bills? Make sure that you set aside enough time to give yourself some time to enjoy yourself and buy the things you want to buy. This gives you a sense of achievement and satisfaction.
